Throughout Jay's time as a graduate with GHD he was fortunate enough to gain technical exposure and knowledge across several of the civil disciplines. These included water, traffic, structural, and pavement design, with the majority being in the water discipline. As well as gaining experience in technical fields he was also exposed to asset management, project management and compiling construction specifications and a multitude of other reports. Working with GHD Jay had exposure to… Show more Throughout Jay's time as a graduate with GHD he was fortunate enough to gain technical exposure and knowledge across several of the civil disciplines. These included water, traffic, structural, and pavement design, with the majority being in the water discipline. As well as gaining experience in technical fields he was also exposed to asset management, project management and compiling construction specifications and a multitude of other reports. Working with GHD Jay had exposure to some very interesting and engaging water projects. Whilst initially he was predominantly involved in the technical leg work of design he quickly became an integral part to all phases of a project’s lifecycle. The phases Jay was heavily involved in included the options analysis, cost estimates, survey briefs, geotechnical briefs, concept design, detailed design and final design reporting. Some projects that Jay worked on included:• Pump station upgrades• Emergency storage implementation and upgrades• Sewer and water mains (new and upgrading)• Water tank design• Sewage treatment plant design • Modelling, analysis and fault finding for water networks of using WaterCAD• Modelling, analysis and fault finding for sewer networks using SewerCAD• Design of firefighting systems for buildings, adhering to relevant codesThere were multiple other main projects Jay worked on outside of the water disciple that included intersection options analysis and design, bus stop upgrades, asset management and BCA compliance and condition inspections. Jay had opportunities to take the lead on projects as they were released and developed environmental, health and safety and construction management plans to present at pre-start meetings. Jay worked with Lend Lease under Abigroup on the Jezzine Barracks Redevelopment Scheme as well as under Lend Lease on the Vantassel to Cluden Bruce Highway upgrade. Through both these periods his role was as a graduate site engineer where he had the opportunity to gain exposure in multiple areas of the construction industry.
