Responsible for the overall organisation and conduct of the society through its second year running. Going into this role I had to re-negotiate and renew contracts with the society sponsors that were established by the previous committee in order to bring exclusive deals and discounts to our members. During the academic year, I was responsible for maintaining a relationship with our sponsors through regular communication, attending University held events to engage interest in the society, calling and chairing committee meetings, and delegating tasks to committee members. Over the academic year, the society hosted fortnightly events with up to 70 attendees. One of these events was the national Scottish Universities Ice Skating Competition, which was the first of its kind. This event involved myself liaising with the presidents of ice skating societies from other major Scottish Universities, as well as organising travel for our members. I also took on the role of the society risk assessor which involved determining the risks assosciated with our events and how they could be mitigated.

As an intern at Corero Network Security, I took on the role of Full Stack Developer as part of a small, tightly integrated team that focused on developing the various components of the DDoS protection solution we provided to our customers. As part of this team I regularly took part in Agile activities, such as scrums and sprint planning, for organizing tasks, communicating ideas, as well as planning for the future. During my time in this position, I primarily worked with backend and frontend languages/frameworks, such as Java/Spring and Javascript/React. Importantly, this position allowed me to hone the IT skills that I had learnt at university, particularly in the areas of network communication and security, as well as working in a Linux/Unix environment.
