I am a partner at Batten Lee, practicing in litigation and appellate law. Prior to coming to Batten Lee, I was the Director of the Office of Appellate Division Staff located at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and I am a Board Certified Specialist in Appellate Law. I practiced law at Tuggle Duggins, P.A. and Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog, LLP for a total of twenty years. I Chaired the Appellate Section at Cranfill Summer for thirteen years. In my legal practice, I regularly handle appeals in the North Carolina Appellate Courts and in federal court. I also litigate at the trial court level, representing businesses and individuals in the areas of retail and hospitality, premises liability, medical malpractice, negligent security, contract disputes, product liability, general liability and workers' compensation. Prior to beginning my law practice, I served as a law clerk at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and I was an Adjunct Professor at both the University of North Carolina School of Law and Campbell University School of Law for a total of six years.
