Jay Frey’s 40 years of experience in fundraising ranges from serving as a generalist in small development offices to a major and planned giving specialist in large, complex organizations and in leadership roles in a variety of settings. He began his fundraising career in 1977 at The Harvey School in Katonah, New York, and in 1982 moved to Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey. In both positions he achieved success in annual and capital fundraising, and in alumni affairs and public relations.From 1986 to 1991, Jay was Director of Faculty Patient Gifts at Harvard Medical School, where he was instrumental in developing the concept and practice of grateful patient fundraising in an academic medical setting. Subsequently, Jay was recruited to the University of Chicago Medical Center as Senior Director of Major Gifts where he initiated a grateful patient program. In 1994, he was appointed as the first Vice President of Philanthropy at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie. From 1996 to 1999, Jay served as Vice President for Development and External Affairs at the Chicago Historical Society (now the Chicago History Museum), directing a three-year campaign that exceeded its $30 million goal. After two years of serving nonprofits as an independent consultant, Jay affiliated with Clyde P. Watkins and Associates in 2001 and continued with the firm after its merger to form Ter Molen, Watkins and Brandt, LLC through 2004. Jay was a senior major gifts officer at Rush University Medical Center from 2005 to 2009. From 2010 to 2013 he was VP for Development and later VP for Strategic Initiatives at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation where he established 5 auxiliary boards, engaged 80 new volunteers and generated $1 million in new revenue over a 2-year period.
