My wife, Kim, and I are a "two-for-you" team working together as we personally guide clients through each step of the home purchase/sale journey. Out-of-state clients exploring Sussex County and the coastal communities value our knowledge of the region, targeted client-focused research, and meticulous market monitoring. Importantly, clients gain the backing of the Long & Foster family of real estate services that includes mortgage financing, insurance, relocation, property management, and vacation rentals—all working together to help clients find their ideal coastal or southern Delaware home. My professional interest in real estate began in 2015 serving on the staff of the nonprofit affordable homebuilder Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. I built associations with local and county officials, real estate developers and sales professionals, contractors, sub-contractors, skilled tradesmen, banks and community organizations giving me an in-depth, county-wide perspective on homeownership in Southern Delaware. Kim launched her estate career in 2016 joining the Long & Foster—Bethany Beach Real Estate firm. She has sold homes and building lots in Lewes, Rehoboth, Millsboro, Dagsboro and Bethany Beach.

Georgetown, Delaware

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is the Southern Delaware regional affiliate of the global, nonprofit housing organization. We build, rehabilitate, sell and repair home for families whose incomes fall below 60% AMI. My responsibilities included annual giving, donor solicitation, business donations and partnerships, grant writing, event management, communications, and donor relations. During my five years at Sussex Habitat, we built business relationships and developed our Business Partner Program. Our grant productivity rose to an 82% approval rate yielding 84% of funds requested or $5,849,097. The affiliate’s community outreach emphasized Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities and hope through three signature events. Volunteers, supported by staff, built or rehabilitated 43 homes sold to low-income families. In all, the affiliate has sold 143 homes. We engaged in community partnerships to revitalize neighborhoods in Laurel, Seaford and Georgetown. We opened a new ReStore in a purchased, renovated facility in Lewes, DE. And, Sussex Habitat’s fully integrated partnership with $tand-by-Me Delaware expanded dramatically in-house financial coaching. In all, more than 450 families are impacted annually by Sussex County Habitat for Humanity.

Saxtons River, Vermont

We defined, organized, and assessed all Vermont Academy constituents that included a 5-year frequency and generosity study: identified under-valued donors; compiled the Academy’s first donor prospect portfolios; rated 224 priority prospects; and conducted the first full-constituency electronic research project with Target Analytics. I recruited and managed a 5-member advancement team responsible for the annual fund; capital and planned gifts; volunteer alumni association council, alumni relations; regional events, annual golf tournament and reunions; donor relations; communications and marketing; and campaign planning. I drafted a 5-year campaign plan with an estimated goal of $40 million, potentially the largest effort in the school’s history. Based on constituency assessment and research, we organized a national schedule of presentations, discussions, and individual visits promoting the school’s strategic initiatives, needs and fundraising goals. Importantly, through a strong team effort guided by the detailed constituency assessment, we exceeded annual fund budget ($600,000) and public goals ($620,000) for the first time in five years; increased gifts by 10%, participation by 25%, and alumni participation by 33%.

Hudson, Ohio

Ranked among America's most elite boarding schools (a study that examined more than 400 schools), Western Reserve Academy embraces its unique mid-west heritage in historic Hudson, Ohio. I was responsible for the annual fund; capital and planned gifts; Alumni Association and alumni relations; Board of Visitors; regional alumni network; special events and reunions; stewardship and donor relations; communications, marketing and publications; and campaign planning and management. I managed a staff of 17 organized in three working teams; the annual fund, leadership gifts/campaign, and communications. We prepared the advancement organization and the school for a major fund raising campaign with a $75 million planning goal for endowment and historic building restoration. In addition, I managed a portfolio of 159 leadership gift prospects with the Head of School and traveled routinely to 27 cities in 15 states.

Charlottesville, Virgina

Consistently ranked as one of America's top public universities, The University of Virginia is supported by 27 foundations associated with its undergraduate colleges, graduate schools, and research centers. As Vice President for Development at the Alumni Association Foundation, I managed fundraising for 194,000 living graduates and 56,000 lifetime members. In particular, I supervised program directors for the annual fund, membership subscriptions, legacy scholarships, Ridley Scholarships, and Alumni Interest Group campaigns, all part of the $3 billion Campaign for The University of Virginia. In addition, I served as the Executive Director of the Jefferson Trust where I devised and implemented on- and off-campus marketing and promotion; managed leadership gifts solicitation, increasing donor prospects from 22 to 835. We distributed $400,000 annually to faculty, students, research centers, and student organizations.As Vice President for Development at the Darden Graduate Business School Foundation, I managed fundraising programs for a constituency of 8,500 alumni. Based on program audits of annual giving, corporate giving, and development operations, I reorganized the development office into 4 working groups including leadership gifts, annual gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, and development management, hiring 9 new employees and promoting 6. I directed the Campaign for Darden $150,000,000 campaign as part of the $3 billion Campaign for The University of Virginia; raised $33,671,884 in annual, leadership, and corporate gifts; and increased Campaign receipts to $55,267,821.

Pottstown, Pennsylvania

Ranked among America's most elite boarding schools (a study that examined more than 400 schools), The Hill School is located in an urban setting 40 miles northwest of Philadelphia. At The Hill, I planned, built, and managed a comprehensive fundraising program. Working hand-in-hand with key trustees and two headmasters, I assembled the fundraising and communications teams and then managed the Campaign for The Hill School from concept to conclusion. In the first comprehensive campaign in The Hill’s 150 year history, we raised $85.5 million, exceeding the original goal of $70 million by 22%. Leadership giving, planned giving, estate planning, general solicitation, and annual giving were included in the effort. The Campaign for The Hill School was coordinated with two historic milestones: the School's decision to become coeducational, admitting young women for the first time in 147 years, and the sesquicentennial celebration. All that we accomplished was the result of the School's visionary, informed, and inclusive strategic planning discipline. For three years (1990-1993), I taught the Presidential Rhetoric senior seminar in the History Department.
