The Director of National Defense Education Programs works within the KU Office of National Defense Initiatives and manages critical programs, projects, functions, and processes providing focus and support to educational programming and academic partnerships between KU faculty/staff/administrators and the US Department of Defense, Armed Forces, Intelligence Community, and federal government national security enterprise agencies. The Director also identifies KU academic programs that could meet US national security agency requirements, while facilitating and coordinating programs and educational support to meet their evolving needs.

Teaching the basic missions and organizations of the entire US Intelligence Community to students attending the University of Kansas. Students also participate in the ODNI-sponsored Kansas Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) and have the opportunity to intern and work in Intelligence careers with various government organizations after graduation.

The KU Office of Graduate Military Programs (OGMP) (gmp.ku.edu) serves as the primary conduit between the Department of Defense and the University. The Associate Director of OGMP manages critical programs, projects, functions, and processes within OGMP supporting research and educational programming and partnerships between KU faculty/staff/administrators and the US Military. This position officially represents OGMP and KU internally and externally to the public and US government, while serving as an expert in the field to peer institutions, the US government, and University partners. This position identifies KU academic programs that meet requirements identified by the military and coordinates KU resources to support their growing academic and research needs. Finally, they develop partnerships with the US government, and identify and secure new grant opportunities while managing and participating in current grant awards.

Assists the Director of Graduate Military Programs in identifying and pursuing academic research and educational programming opportunities between KU, the US Armed Forces and the Department of Defense. We actively develop new partnerships, identify and facilitate new grant opportunities, and manage approximately $4 million in existing grant funding. Our office seeks to enhance the exchange of information, ideas, and knowledge between KU and the US Armed Forces, promote faculty and student exchanges, joint conferences and seminars, and curricular development and research.  By doing so we hope to enhance the capacity of KU and the nation's military and governmental organizations, to better serve the nation and the larger world community.

I teach professional military education courses for USAF Air University eSchool (distance learning). My classes are comprised of students from all branches of the US military, and civilian federal employees with varied backgrounds of Joint service.

Assistant Professor and the only US Air Force Space Liaison Officer to Army University at Fort Leavenworth. At the US Army Command and General Staff College I taught military senior officers, foreign officers, and government officials graduate-level courses in air, space, cyber and nuclear operations. I was the Air Force's resident Subject Matter Expert on space systems, missions, doctrine and employment reaching over 1,200 professional students each year. I was also an educational manager authoring course curricula. I led our student support services office providing support to 200 top-tier Air Force officers attending the college, led Faculty Development while on-boarding and certifying Air Force faculty, developed graduate-level joint warfare curriculum and performed instructor evaluations.

At the Advanced Space Operations School I led a 60 officer, enlisted, government and contractor team creating and executing advanced courses on space operations for the Department of Defense and our foreign allies. As Educational Manager of 13 courses I was directly responsible for excellence, accuracy and Instructional Systems Design of curriculums reaching over 1700 students. I led the instructor training and certification programs, operational exercises, evaluation program, web distance learning programs and quality control programs. Through successful project management I planned and executed our $3.2M budget.

At US Strategic Command headquarters I worked in the Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) reporting to the Director (General Officer) as his sole space intelligence planner supporting current and future war plans. I liaised with the greater Intelligence Community and advocated for worldwide space intelligence requirements while contributing to the prioritization process for high-demand global space assets.

Primary advisor and consultant for nuclear strikes to multiple General and Flag officers including the Commander of US Strategic Command on board the E-6B “Looking Glass” TACAMO aircraft. I directly influenced presidential decisions involving nuclear force staging, execution and recovery under quick timelines. I was dual certified to advise Generals and the President on all planned nuclear strike options while also executing, tracking and briefing those strikes to the POTUS.

Space liaison between USSTRATCOM-Space and USCENTCOM. I facilitated and helped prioritize and direct critical space support to Southwest Asia operations supporting warfighters and joint missions in real time. Deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq and Qatar to work with the CAOC and ground forces applying unique space solutions to complex and classified operations.

Command lead for Headquarters Air Force Space Command's Defensive Space Control programs. I led a team of 8 military, government civilian and contractors managing the $750M Rapid Attack Identification, Detection and Reporting System (RAIDRS) program, the $550M Integrated Space Situational Awareness (ISSA) program and JSpOC Mission System (JMS) program. As lead project manager, I set goals, established timelines, monitored progress and acquired additional funding while keeping schedules and work on track. I also advocated for and won an additional $620M for a critical urgent need in Southwest Asia immediately impacting war operations.

Led a 21 person team at the military’s only Space Range supporting exercises, tests, operations, evaluations and education of satellite and ground station capabilities while leasing and contracting commercial satellites. I reviewed and evaluated federal contracts and was quality assurance control certified to make decisions on our $5.4M assets and personnel. I led the first-ever overseas travel of our team w/$1.5M of support equipment to support a global operation.

Led a team of 10 people managing scheduling, records, training, curriculum development and certification programs for 178 space operators while leading logistics and support for our $75M simulator. On shifts I led a team of 24 operating a constellation of missile warning and thermal detection satellites. We provided attack warning to all overseas forces during Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. I was also appointed to the base’s disaster emergency response and relief unit. I was honored to be interviewed by the Discovery Channel for a television special on the OIF/OEF wars.

Led 9 officers responsible for seven $10M simulators and 635 technical training manuals at the Nuclear ICBM technical training center. Trained over 200 nuclear officers and certified as a Technical Training Instructor and Evaluator by Air Education and Training Command.

Responsible for up to 150 land-based nuclear weapons and prepared to launch them within minutes if directed by the President of the United States. I earned the position of Instructor, Evaluator, Chief of Training and led 15 launch crews at the wing Command Post. I was also the Exercise director for Missile operations and was certified in handling base emergency disaster responses and relief efforts.
