The primary project was development of the I-Rail (Intelligent Rail) system to integrate devices used by soldiers on the battlefield for the U.S. Army.I managed a 5 person team of hardware and software engineers and was responsible for managing tasks to integrate software applications with hardware mounted on a soldier’s weapon. - Provided project estimates, reported on progress, managed deadlines, wrote specifications and use cases. - Developed Android phone apps to test and debug the platform. - Coached engineers in Agile methodologies and collaborated in executing Kanban to manage this complex project. - Participated in Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) in which soldiers from 3 NATO countries tested I-Rail in simulated battlefield conditions. Received positive feedback on the product and gathered data on product performance for ongoing improvements.

Grew the QA team from 2 to 7 engineers, implemented quality improvements to facilitate exponential sales growth to 1 million gift cards per year, and subsequent acquisition by Blackhawk Networks. Reviewed and reported on customer satisfaction ratings and comments. Collaborated with developers to identify root cause of product defects and presented findings and corrective action recommendations to CTO. Managed schedules to deliver new features and seasonal content on time. - Revitalized struggling QA team through coaching to strengthen testing skills and introduced repeatable processes and best practices, thereby improving product quality, team morale, and accountability. - Defined and refined QA role with developers, business analysts, and project managers across 7 Scrum teams. - Boosted quality and customer satisfaction with CTO, product managers, development managers, and fraud managers. - Introduced and led green light meetings in advance of major releases to demonstrate new features to all employees and gather internal comments and feedback. This process led to improvements in product quality as well as greater employee engagement/ownership.

Oversaw 12-member QA group for mail order pharmacy system, serving clients such as Humana, Cigna and Walmart. Expanded team from 3 to 12 analysts, hiring and developing employees through coaching and performance review. Managed scheduling, provided estimates, and solved management and technical problems. Created and tracked quality metrics to report on KPIs. Fostered product success that restored the department’s profitability. - Collaborated with business analysts and project managers to refine requirements, focusing on user scenarios and objectives to align with business goals; initiated reviews prior to development. - Established process allowing developers and QA analysts to better understand customer needs, thereby reducing rework and improving quality. - Overhauled internal processes with development, product, and customer support teams; resolved defect backlog and strengthened product quality and support, expediting response to customer needs from several months to less than 1 week. - Built task team (customer support, product management, development, QA) that held daily standup meetings with customer support to improve responsiveness and eliminate backlog of customer requests. - These efforts were a significant factor to growing the customer base to 15+ mail order pharmacies that processed 10+ million prescriptions per month. - The team consistently achieved a Defect Removal Efficiency (DRE) metric above 95% (U.S. average is 85%). - In one instance, we released a complex upgrade requiring 15,000+ person-hours; for six months after the upgrade we recorded zero customer-reported defects.
