I am a principal applied scientist at Amazon where I study artificial intelligence, including generative AI, and solve interesting problems in transportation and logistics.I previously spent my days writing scientific software at National Labs and government contractors. I have a B.S. in Physics from Virginia Tech, class of 2005, an M.S. in Theoretical Astrophysics from the University of Tennessee, class of 2008, and a Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, class of 2019.I am a founding member and current chair of the Science Working Group at the Eclipse Foundation, where I also lead the development of the Eclipse Integrated Computational Environment (ICE) and the Eclipse Advanced Visualization Project (EAVP). I was also appointed to the Eclipse Architecture Council in February 2016 and am a mentor for several additional Eclipse projects.In a previous life, I was the group leader for Research Software Engineering at ORNL. I have been funded by the Department of Energy Offices of Nuclear Energy (NE), Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR), Advanced Manufacturing (AMO), Basic Energy Science (BES), and the ORNL Laboratory Director's Research and Development (LDRD) fund.I spend my spare time singing, hanging out with my family, remodeling our Oak Ridge "alphabet house," and gardening.My full CV is available upon request.
