As the Program Manager for International Relations I was responsible for admissions, advising, and professional development for the approximately 350 Majors and 220 Minors in IR at any one time. My work with students occured across mediums; from events and one-on-one advising, to email, phone, and social media. In working alongside these students, I employed a developmental advising model wherein I sought to ask intentional questions moving students toward their own conclusions as strategies for next steps. In addition to working directly with students I also worked on a strategic level to determine best practices and modes of operation for the admissions process, communication, and program direction. In partnership with the academic chairs of the program, I also worked with requirements and curriculum. Working out of the Liu Institute for Global Issues, part of my time is also dedicated to programs run out of that institute and within the larger School of Public Policy and Global Affairs. In these areas I managed the Liu Scholars Program, the visiting scholars programs, and coordinated international learning opportunities for students in the Masters of Public Policy and Global Affairs.

Supported the work of every portfolio area of this international learning office through providing assistance with event planning, communications, and administrative work. The extent of requests required that I manage my time incredibly well while also clearly communicating what the various teams could expect from me. Collaborated with colleagues on orientation planning, application cycles, and the creation of a peer program for incoming exchange students. Was also responsible for the planning and execution of the Global Experience Fair, Go Global's annual application kick-off event and information fair.

Supporting the outbound exchange portfolio in this role I worked with students from the time of interest in the programs to the point of departure. Doing this required clear decision making on timelines and policies, communicating with advisors and other staff in support of the students, and maintaining relationships with cross-campus colleagues as they interfaced with outbound exchange students. With nearly 1200 students a year participating in programs of this kind, the workload was significant and also required a high level of accuracy. Duties included the creation and registration of exchange codes, researching and communicating partner application instructions, and updating colleagues and systems as students made changes to their exchange experiences. Working in this role provided me with an opportunity to collaborate with others in refining many of the administrative processes involved. This learning experience was a definite highlight of the work I did in this position.

Arts Academic Advising

Fast-paced, dynamic environment where I worked with a team of student staff for an office of about 25. Specifically, was first point of contact for the 12,000+ students in the Faculty of Arts as a resource and place of support. Worked on many diverse projects in addition to day-to-day communication: international students, student well-being and reach-out, social media, training, event planning, transfer students, online presentations, data management and interpretation and many more.
