About Jayme Simmons (Boardman)

I am passionate about teaching science, in an informal environment, to students of all ages. I am a Certified Interpretive Guide with NAI and use my background and skills to better the general public's understanding of challenging science and nature topics. My specific interests involve critical issues in California water: snow pack changes, dam removal, river management, pipeline construction and flood control on the levees of the Central Valley. My background is biology based for a geologist and I strive to educate the public on the interdisciplinary aspects of our ecosystem. I have a broad understanding of our environment and find myself teaching on nearly any science topic. I am currently developing an interpretive program related to California's bats.I love leading tours! I got my start, back in middle school, presenting public tours for the Tech Museum of Innovation's start-up, "The Garage", and was once the youngest tour guide for the museum. I now present: Meet & Greets at Happy Hollow Park and Zoo where I offer animal encounters to children ages 5 and under with their families, the Ohlone tour for 3rd/4th graders at Chitactac County Park, school tours at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History on topics such as Ohlone Life in California, the endemic species of the Santa Cruz Sandhills, and Animal Habitats and Adaptations. I look forward to starting tours for Henry W. Coe State Park.My work experience is varied but I am always interacting with the public. I provided customer sevice at the Marriott Hotel front desk when was offered the elite position of rooms controller. The intensive customer service training offered by Marriott eventually landed me on the top floor in the VIP Concierge Lounge. I now excel at handling a wide variety personality types and difficult situations. The majority of my time is spent dedicated to improving my community. My favorite part of the day is spent managing our small family farm of goats, pigs, chickens, and dogs.
