San Diego, CA

Built team of policy experts to support legislative platform and goals for the Mayor of San Diego, one of the top ten largest cities in the country. Issue areas managed included everything from water, environmental and infrastructure policy to binational affairs and growing the innovation economy. Initiative success depended on strategic policy.

City Of San Diego

On loan to the Office of the Interim Mayor from SANDAG to assist in rebuilding the office and advance major projects and policy, including the San Diego Convention Center expansion; the Tourism Marketing District; rehiring of state and federal lobbying teams; and development of the City's Legislative Program. Manage overall policy initiatives and strategy.

Greater San Diego Area

Manage state legislative program and advocacy efforts. Liaison with intergovernmental partners and agencies to advance initiatives approved by the agency's Board of Directors consisting of all 18 cities and the County of San Diego.

Develop the City of San Diego's annual legislative program and manage the City's lobbying teams in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento. Special assignment: lead staff for the advancement of the proposed $520 million San Diego Convention Center Expansion Project.

San Diego City Council

Responsible for budget, policy and communications strategy for newly elected Councilmember. Directed strategic constituent and community outreach, media relations and public appearances, policy decisions and electronic communications program.

Office Of Mayor Jerry Sanders

Mayor's liaison to the City Council. Participated in City Council meetings as the Mayor's representative. Responsible for advancing the Mayor's platform with the Council. Briefed City Council and staff and built coalitions to ensure successful Council votes.

San Diego City Council

Responsible for preparing briefs and making recommendations on citywide policy issues. Prepared committee materials and presented position papers on behalf of the Land Use & Housing Committee Chair.

Building Industry Association Of San Diego County

Developed inaugural Internal Communications Program for an association of over 1,400 members and an estimated 10,000 industry employees. Goal was to compel employees to become active in the legislative and political processes. Editor of award-winning Industry Informer and association web site.
