The selling experience I acquired from fundraising in the non-profit world turned out to easily translate to selling in the telecommunications industry. However, my time with GST was short-lived as I moved back out to my hometown and awaited the opportunity to begin working at The Garland Company.GST Telecommunications, Inc. provided voice, data, and Internet services throughout the western United States. Its products included data transport, internet access, voice services, including a bundled offering of local and long distance services, and wholesale services, including dark fiber and conduit rights.

Greater Atlanta Area

As Executive Director for this Atlanta-based non-profit, my primary responsibilities were focused on fundraising and program development. We brought on major donors such as National Bank (which was purchased by Bank of America), Georgia Power and The Home Depot. One of the character-development programs we launched taught inner city at-risk youth how to maintain the US Olympic training courses.

After graduating college, I headed to the east coast to pursue whitewater slalom professionally. I made it to the 1996 US Olympic Team Trials with my slalom team.
