As a Scientist I ran assays for assessing the presence of SARS-COV-2 in human biological specimens. I actively worked in teams to prepare human nasopharyngeal swabs, extract RNA, and run qPCR with a validated COVID-19 method. Assays trained in: Virpath, GeneMap and LogixSmart all using a liquid handling machine as well as manual loading. Being trained in these assays confidently allowed me to troubleshoot any issues that may occur, preparing master mixes and reading result outputs for the timely deliverance of results to clients.

As part of the governments national testing strategy a collaboration was made between Astra Zeneca, GSK and the University of Cambridge. This role involved the receipt and preparation of swab samples for RNA extraction and PCR analysis. This role will furthered my skills in the handling of human biological samples, using data bases to store information, working independently and most importantly enhancing my skills as a scientist.

As a CERT Student Mentor I was recruited through an application process and was required to: participate in trainingin preparation for the role. I was trained to be able to: co-deliver community-building activities to first-year undergraduate students duringWelcome Week, induction and throughout the 2018/19 academic year and partake in in-class peer support tofacilitate students' transition into University. In carrying out this role I demonstrated anddeveloped my skills in communication, teamwork, organisation, time management and relatability.

Key responsibilities in this role included admin for the practice and key preparation for patients. Busy periods and absence of my manager required me to take charge and lead other colleagues while under pressure.
