CtoTerecircuits Corp. Sep 2018 - PresentCurrently we are focused on materials development for customers who will use the technology in much the way that is described in the blurb below this. Our component transfer material and process is by far the best way to make many cutting-edge products (microLED displays, small IoT devices, anything flexible, and anything using thin and/or fragile chips). We also have other materials innovations for the advanced packaging industry. Our business is in the materials, not the end products.

CeoTerecircuits Corp. Jul 2015 - Sep 2018Terecircuits has the mission of providing a system integration process which can produce integrated electronic circuits with the ultimate in compact size, thinness, design flexibiity and in some cases physical flexibility with unsurpassed performance and reliability at low cost. The resulting circuits have virtually all the benefits of a single chip at a high yield and low cost. It is well suited to heterogeneous integration of virtually any type of component, and to minimizing design cycle time and cost.

CtoTerepac Corp. 2008 - 2015Waterloo, On, CaTerepac developed an electronic packaging and assembly technology which is capable of making thin (with silicon chips 25 microns thick or less), flexible and ultrasmall circuit modules at low cost, with primary emphasis on the Internet of Things. As CTO I guided this development as well as providing the main technical input. The technology has now been licensed to Terecircuits. -
Associate CtoNanosolar, Inc. 2004 - 2008My primary responsibilities were technical and vendor guidance regarding roll-to-roll processing for thin film photovoltaic devices, cost modeling, and recruiting. I provided a variety of other technical inputs, especially related to microelectronic process techniques, and contributed in many of the myriad of ways that are the norm in a vibrant, lean startup in which a lot of work just needs to get done, quickly.

DirectorLost Arrow Consulting Apr 2002 - Jul 2004Consulting and entrepreneurial development in thin film electronics, particularly involving roll-to-roll processing techniques. During this time I was a co-founder of two companies (Rolltronics Corp. and Intelleflex Corp.), and advised several others (including Nanosys, Nanosolar, Appleton Paper, and others). I served as Chief Scientist of Novus Communications Technology for ~6 mo. during its early formative stages.

Program Manager, World E-InclusionHp 2000 - 2002Palo Alto, Ca, UsTogether with two senior HP executives I began a program to establish a for-profit business which would be driven by world needs in environmental and social sustainability. The result was the World e-Inclusion program, which was dedicated to providing Internet-based services to people in underserved parts of the developing world. Initial projects included partnerships with Grameen Communications, the Costa Rican Foundation for Sustainable Development, and the Joko Foundation (Senegal). -
Member Of Technical StaffHp 1982 - 2000Palo Alto, Ca, Us3 main technical projects during this time were: 1) Invention and development of a photochemical image enhancement technique which achieved 0.5 micron resolution in integrated circuit photolithography using 436 nm ("g-line") light and N.A. 0.28 lenses. This was the best achievable resolution with such optical systems, at normal production throughput.2) Development of photolithography processes for high temperature superconductors, and investigation of the effect of this processing on surface structure and physical properties (especially surface resistance). 3) Several roles in the development of organic LEDs, including demonstration of the effect of using a non-reactive low work function cathode, and surface studies (especially SIMS) of devices showing degradation after operation. In addition I represented HP Labs on the corporate Product Stewardship Council and eventually initiated a project in Internet technology for the developing world (see above). -
Postdoctoral FellowStanford University 1979 - 1982Stanford, Ca, UsDevelopment of a picosecond laser spectroscopy system to carry out coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectroscopy on non-linear chemical reactions for spatial and temporal resolution of concentration variations. Supervised the training of three graduate students (in the laboratory of Prof. John Ross).
