My role is to source, compile and build a balanced range of items alongside theapparel assortment.I'm responsible for buying the following commodities for men & ladies:Underwear, Socks, Bags, Wallets, Belts, Headwear, Sunglasses, Watches, Costumejewelry, and Perfume.Key Responsibilities:- Procure and range build appropriate ranges aligned with the strategy withspecial attention to all trading opportunities. - To ensure the timeous execution of procurement.- Work closely with the planner, through analysis of previous sales patterns,market trends, and brand initiatives.- Formulate departmental strategies to maximize sales and then timeouslysource and secure stock to implement strategies.- Negotiate effectively.- Build and maintain good relationships with staff, suppliers(both nationally andinternationally), and key functions in the business.- To effectively build and maintain supplier relationships.- To continuously develop products and consistently execute products to offerthe best value.- Product order management(Administration).- Collaborate closely with Marketing on campaigns

Manage & maintain department critical path, involving chasing relevant parties for outstanding items to ensure all milestones are adhered to. Assist the team in the performance of their duties, including having regular contact with suppliers, updating critical paths, sample management, and liaising with other internal departments where necessary.- Keep range plan up to date with new products, cost & retail changes, and bench-marking information.- Liaise closely with the Design department to ensure all packaging requests are completed promptly and artwork sent to suppliers on time.- Keep range plan up to date with new products, cost, and retail changes. - Ensure any changes to the buy plan are updated basically. This basically speaks to the Range plan for the month and ensures that the buy plan is updated with Add-in and amendments. Should anything from the Range move out, inform the Marketing department as this influences the Launch.- Prepare timeously for all key departmental meetings, Merch meetings, BDA, Strategy & Range Review.- Ensure fit samples are prepped and scheduled for fitting.- Ensure trend boards are updated. - Follow up on samples for Fitting and ensure the Range plan is updated with the latest image.- Sample management between Online and Marketing.- Ensure product information is sent to the Social Media Manager timeously for launch. - Creation and maintaining of products on the central system.- Maintaining Sample filing for the department.- Support the team in any other tasks required to ensure the smooth running of the department across all elements of the buying process from strategy to implementation.

Phase 3: Buying: 9-12 Months- Briefing Supplier - styling, fabric, delivery dates, units, cost, trim- Procure fabric- Quality Assurance – working closely with garment technologist on product fits- Present trade and management meetings- Comp shop Analysis – price, product offering in the marketplace- Sign-off Lab dips- Analyze product (KPI) performance and react- Workshop trends for the seasonPhase 2: Assistant Buyer 3-6 Months- Procure fabric- Quality Assurance – working closely with garment technologist on product fits- Comp shop Analysis – price, product offering in the marketplace- Sign off lab dipsPhase 1: Buyers Assistant – 3-6 Months- Sample room maintenance- Follow up on bulk samples- Raising local and Import orders timeously- Prepare product for meetings and marketing

- Weekly fittings. Ensure bulk production is approved and ready for delivery.- Loading confirmed orders into the system- Data entry on Cieltex systems- Data entry on Woolworth's systems Quest. Ensuring that measurements/ comments loaded are correct- Ordering of trims – bags/ labels/ swing tickets etc- Processing of shipment documents- Managing style sheets and product delivery within the critical path- Liaise daily with the Production team

The 18-month retail experience was part of my Diploma application. Within this role, I was exposed to various departments within the retail cycle. I worked within the Accessories & knit department. Where I have actioned multiple tasks/ projects required within the buying space.
