Qc Shift Chemist
I was employed as a Quality Control Shift Chemist (made redundant due to Covid) working 12.5 hour rotating shifts (DuPont shift pattern) to provide continuous cover in the 24/7 operation in a very busy QC laboratory supporting plant production of a top tier COMAH site. My role involves:• Responsible for all aspects of Quality Control, including the testing of incoming raw materials as well as the intermediary and finished products.• Carrying out the testing and approval of intermediary and finished products safely, in accordance with procedures to ensure all products leaving site conform to required specifications, in a timely manner so as to minimize any delays to blending and logistics.• Testing samples to internationally recognized test methods and in-house methods using a wide variety of equipment and techniques including IR, Karl Fischer, SG, RI, viscometry, GPC, Lovibond turbidity/colorimetry, density, COD (HACH) effluent analysis, Titrando/Titrino and basic wet chemistry.• Advise production of any necessary adjustments required for OOS results.• Perform pilot work as part of NCM investigations.• Maintaining lab equipment and facilities to required standard including troubleshooting and calibration.• Managing and prioritizing workload as well as giving approval for product.• Working shifts in a small team including working alone and without direct supervision.• Train new starters and students.• Use SAP, StarLIMS and Outlook as well as Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
