Operational Support Department

I hold an exceptional depth of experience in the planning and operational response to a wide range of public events from music festivals to Royal and government visits, Remembrance Day parades through to the safe management of protests, demonstrations and marches.Planning and resourcing these events, I manage sensitive information and intelligence, preparing and delivering briefings to senior command officers to guide operational response. I provide diplomatic challenge to more senior officers often in intensely pressurised environments, utilising my specialist knowledge to secure successful outcomes. I provide the most up to date research and learning and lead on the application of policy and the appropriate sharing of information. Liaising extensively with internal and external partners, I sit on local panels and city and countrywide Safety Advisory Groups. Providing advice on events, I guide on resourcing requirements and security and safeguarding regulations. Having undertaken specialist training and holding a depth of experience in event and emergency management, I work with internal Tactical Co-ordination Groups and Strategic Coordination Groups to set and deliver multi-agency responses in emergency environments. Working with external partners, I have designed and delivered tabletop training to event organisers and am engaged in a review of an event management plan template to guide new event organisers across Nottinghamshire. As the event planning lead for the Nottinghamshire Police Emergency Services Day, I have undertaken extensive development of the large event; designing event infrastructure, writing the event management plan and sourcing a wide range of facilities.

Performing this role in addition to my regular duties, I served as a member of a small team, trained to deploy to spontaneous or planned public order and public safety events. I engaged diplomatically with groups and individuals who were unwilling to engage with the police, often holding extreme political views or sporting allegiances. Working in advance of planned protests, I sought to influence uncooperative event organisers to ensure public order was maintained, offering appropriate advice to minimise the impact on the public.

Performing this role in addition to my regular duties, I worked with the match day commander, providing a continual overview of police resources and monitoring of CCTV to ensure resources are available at the right time and in the right place. This role required exceptional communication skills, offering clear and accurate guidance to aid the rapid reaction to all emerging threat and risk. I covered numerous major operations as a police controller, based with silver or bronze commanders, ensuring a full intelligence view was available both pre and post match in order to secure robust risk assessment and organisational learning.

Divisional Training Team

I held various roles during this time:Trainer - Delivering organisation wide training on a local level, I managed a range of packages from officer safety to first aid and IT. Liaising with senior officers and local supervisors, I identified learning gaps and specific needs of response officers, detectives, police community support officers and police staff; writing and delivering bespoke lessons to support their professional progression. Sporting Events Planner - I contributed to the coordination of planning and resourcing of sporting fixtures including football matches at Nottingham Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town and Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. My work included the gathering and dissemination of information and intelligence in relation to threat and risk at these events.

Frontline Policing

Response - Tasked with the immediate reaction to critical incidents, I managed a diverse range of issues, processing information quickly and accurately and delivering a considered approach to this pressured, fast time, role. I exercised effective conflict management skills and demonstrated an ability to connect with people, with empathy and compassion, in the most difficult environments. Optical Evidence Gatherer - I also served, on an on call basis, in this specialist role, providing support for Nottingham Forest Football Club. Working within football intelligence teams, I identified high risk football supporters, gathering evidence, to prevent public order threat and mitigating the potential for violence, extreme right wing activity and organised crime.
