About Jayne Marlow
As I prepared to select a major for college, I thought of the only subject I genuinely enjoyed in high school: biology of the human body. This led me to studying exercise science, and shifting my view of the world forever. For example, I believe that helping people exercise and moving in the right way will create a domino effect to enhance other aspects of their life as well.I have developed a strong passion about fitness and moving the body in healthy ways. As a way to impact those around me I became a certified personal trainer through NASM, and have been personal training since summer 2022 at the local YMCA. I have enjoyed helping those within my community improve their health through providing them with an individualized exercise program. Throughout my journey as an undergrad, I was very grateful to have hands-on experience and apply my education with a client. For example, I assessed a client's movement using screening tools such as the FMS. Furthermore, I worked with peers to develop an exercise program for a client with a spinal cord injury.I want to continue expanding my knowledge within the subject and continue helping others move their bodies in positive and pain-free ways. Being able to witness and play a part in someone's shift to a better quality of life is very rewarding. I assess client’s past and present physical activity as well as their needs to further their fitness. Using this information, I plan an exercise program fit for the client and adjust the program based on the client’s dynamic needs. During sessions, I instruct the client on how to perform exercises. I take charge in communicating with the client about scheduling, how to maintain a routine, and any health related questions they ask.

I welcomed patients by getting their weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and assessing their medication status. I discussed the current exercise plan with the patient, and assessed whether to have them maintain or progress. I checked on patients during exercise, took their heart rate and got their RPE. I shadowed stress tests where I assisted taking waist circumference, grip strength, and blood pressure for a few patients. I also shadowed the process for a patients first day to the program.
