Greetings, I’m Jayne (or DrJMT), a decision-making expert dedicated to helping humans and organisations make better decisions, especially in times of uncertainty. I am an experienced Non-Executive Director (NED) where I ask the insightful questions that bring lateral thought and represent the lived experience. The importance of my transferable governance skills is reinforced in my current appointment as community member on the NSW NMC Regulator. Having worked with Boards in both executive and NED roles there are five key skills I offer Board appointments.1. Start-up governanceAs founding NED with AusTTA the decisions were always challenged by limited resources and need for systems to develop a membership association. With a particular focus on professional development around transformation education, my skills in being able to frame structure whilst encouraging fluidity was key. Engagement across all stakeholders, co-crafting white papers and assisting a clear vision later led to the association’s ‘massive transformation purpose’.2. Measurement Working with TGP and its 5-year plan to bring sector leaders together, my role combined oversight of the measurement process and its implementation. Having experience of the dual role between operation and strategic tensions was an integral part of the program success. Achieving global sustainability has been a key success element of my approach to outcome measurement.3. G-Local alignmentMy experience of alignment between global footprints and local decisions was strengthened by my PhD research, resulting in my appointment as NED RSA Oceania. The challenges between governance arrangements in differing continents and the importance of clear communication are contemporary skills I offer. 4. Sector specificDuring the same time as being CCA deputy chairperson to Tim Costello, I completed the AICD Director program, focusing on Board evaluation and future Board appointments. My understanding and connections across the Australian civil society sector is broad and I continue to be engaged in advisory/ambassador roles with several organisations (STaR; CSI; MM; EAA).5. Passion and purposeMy passion around volunteering is another experience of my NED career. Being the Chairperson of Volunteer Family Connect (VFC), a collaboration between philanthropic support, 3 Not for Profits, 2 Universities and 1 of the big four organisations. With VFC being a world first pragmatic randomised control trial around volunteering over a 10-year period, I led this collaboration from inception to sustainable conclusion.
