My passion is resilient regional communities and functioning landscapes. I am keen to see regional application of natural capital risk assessments, net positive development approaches and support for human wellness through environmental health.I have strengths in bringing together teams and businesses that can complement each other to do more together than they can alone. I support an inclusive based approach to handling conflicts that enables people to maintain respect for each other and from that come to mutually beneficial agreement beyond conflict. There is a current high priority need for us all to understand and respond to climate change so that we can collectively manage the new risks it will throw at us and make the most of the new opportunities that will also come. I have grown up in a rural agricultural business (free-range sheep and cattle), completed a Bachelor of Science in Plant Ecology, Post Grad Diploma in Ethnobotany, and have worked for 20 years in Landcare and Natural Resource Management not-for-profits. My work-life has been focused on bridging social boundaries: - city and country - science and practice - business and community - biodiversity and agricultureto ensure the longevity of the natural systems that sustain us. With this background, I have reached a couple of conclusions about our collective future.1. We cannot put things back the way they were in some kind of historic utopian construct (though much of conservation policy in Australia seems focussed on this) and, 2. Our collective influence on earth systems has reached an extent that the world will be the way we make it, either accidentally or on purpose, so let's make it on purpose into a place that reflects us at our best. Acknowledgment of Country: I was born on Barrunggam Country and grew up on Bidjara Country. I have worked across Southern QLD, based from the Country of the Jarowair/Giabal Peoples. My respect goes to Elders past and present for keeping knowledge, language and culture alive in the face of so much challenge. My deep thanks goes to those Elders and First Nations People whom I am able to call friends and colleagues, for their expressions of grace and invitations to share knowledge of Country.
