After graduating High school, I started a career in Wildland Firefighting. While earning my associates in Emergency Services with an emphasis on Wildland Firefighting I got the opportunity to work on wildfires in Alaska, Montana, and Idaho multiple times as a member of a type 2 crew. I also held various positions at the Palmer and Fairbanks warehouses cleaning, repairing, preparing, and delivering supplies to wildfires around Alaska. Near the end of this career, I was towards completing the tasks of becoming a Base Camp Manager. After starting a family, I found a career in telecommunications and for my first two years I was a contractor to GCI where my primary focus was residential installations and repairs. Over the next 15 years as a Field Technician for GCI I worked up to Senior Field Technician by taking on all aspects of residential and business services. While working as a Technician I earned another A.S. in General Business. Additionally, I have had the good fortune to work with many other departments and contractors allowing me to take my career in telecommunications in a new direction as a Project Manager 1.
