I designed a custom partnership tax accounting system for the firm.Performed many functional roles to gather, analyze and understand requirements, design an innovative and extensible architecture, and code up usable pieces leveraging an agile development cycle.I split time between active development and as an embedded resource with the accountants to facilitate the best understanding of the issues and concepts necessary in creating an enterprise tax accounting and reporting system.The system leveraged the partial netting aggregate methodology and performed partnership accounting utilizing dynamic tax sensitive asset and income allocation schemes, management/performance fee calculations (including high-water marks) and year-end stuffing across multiple fund silos. Various long-term and short-term gains/losses were distinguished as part of the allocation / reallocation schemes, for example 1256 LT & ST gains / losses are treated differently than other gains and losses and reallocated accordingly by aggregate fund ownership percentage over a time series to the benefit of the remaining partners.The system also automated quarterly investor statements, year-end statements and K-1’s as well as performance fee calculations, tax filling of withdrawing partners, and fund reallocations.
