I had the opportunity to work in various departments and gain hands-on experience in different areas of animal care. In the Animal Care Rotation, I learned about the challenges of animal care and husbandry, and performed tasks such as cleaning enclosures, preparing diets, and handling animals. I also assisted with routine care and physical therapy, and observed and recorded animal activity.In the Medical Rotation, I gained a basic understanding of medical problems encountered by the center and was introduced to various medical tests and procedures. I helped restrain animals, assisted with diagnostics and surgical set-up, and administered fluids and medications. I also assisted with data entry and helped technicians with other tasks.In the Outreach Rotation, I learned to communicate with the public regarding animal interactions, both emergency and non-emergency. I entered patients into the database, rode along with ambulance staff, and assisted in wildlife rescues.In the Rehabilitation/Release Rotation, I learned about the challenges and potential solutions for rehabilitation and release. I inspected and prepared habitats, observed and evaluated animals for release, and participated in enrichment programs. I also assisted with data entry and helped in releases, including filming events.Overall, my rotational internship at the South Florida Wildlife Center gave me valuable experience and insight into various areas of animal care and wildlife rehabilitation.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

During my veterinary service internship at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, I had the opportunity to work alongside the resident veterinarians and medical staff at the Elephant Clinic. My main responsibilities included assisting with medical treatments for elephants that were receiving special medical attention. This included administering medication and other treatments as directed by the vets.In addition to my clinical work, I also assisted with elephant diet preparations, collecting food from the plantations and ensuring that the elephants' dietary requirements were being met. Furthermore, I helped with any ongoing maintenance tasks around the park, such as cleaning enclosures and other areas where the elephants reside. Overall, my internship at the Elephant Nature Park allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of veterinary medicine while also being immersed in the unique culture of Thailand.

As the Kennel Manager, I was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the kennel department. This included training and supervising kennel staff to ensure that all tasks were completed accurately and efficiently. I also ensured that all filing systems were up to date and that clients were checked in and out in a timely manner.Maintaining the cleanliness of the facility was also a top priority, and I routinely checked that everything was in order. I was also responsible for keeping inventory of all kennel supplies and drafting the monthly schedule for the department.In addition to managing the kennel staff, I also interacted with clients and provided tours of the facility to potential clients. I ensured that any special instructions provided by the DVM or owners were being followed and kept detailed records of all client interactions, including processing customer accounts.
