Senior Paralegal Specialist
Current• Serves as Office of Administrative Law Judge's principal paralegal specialist supporting highly important and complex energy cases by utilizing substantive understanding of FERC regulations, energy law, litigation, settlement procedures, and the administrative hearing processes at the Commission. • Performs final review (including cite-checking) of all initial decisions, certifications, orders, and notices prior to issuance by all judges. Ensures that final products are legally correct, neat, accurate, and complete, reflect thorough proofreading, and comply with all Commission requirements and deadlines. Uses legal and non-legal resources to research solutions for errors and conflicting information and subsequently makes corrections or reports edits, errors and solutions to judges.• Drafts and prepares orders, notices, and other legal documents for Chief Judge’s signature.• Creates, edits, and/or suggests changes to OALJ SharePoint sites, procedures and processes, programs, manuals, guides, and other training material.• Key OALJ point of contact for questions and/or training on OALJ and Commission process and procedures, FERC applications, and troubleshooting problems.• Trains and mentors lower-level paralegals on necessary skills and duties and reviews work to ensure that all work products are in the proper format and accurate. Ensures paralegals are properly using and adhering to proper reference sources. • Assigns overload work and coordinates assignments to available paralegals based on availability, priorities, and workload.• Analyzes handling and processing of paralegal workload, subsequently researches findings, and recommends new procedures, practices, and policy. Documents changes and updates in various office manuals and guides.
