I am an international journalist and documentary filmmaker based in New York. My long and short-form text, photo, audio and video work has been published by Time magazine, the BBC, Reuters, CBC Radio, Al-Jazeera, Slate, The New Humanitarian and others. Currently, I am an investigative reporter with the Global Migration Project, part of the Columbia Journalism Investigations Fellowship. My reporting focuses on the intersections of conflict, climate, migration and human rights. During my Master’s Degree at Columbia Journalism School, I was awarded a a DuPont/Judy F. Crichton honorable mention for my documentary film with children separated from their families by the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. In other recent work, after I accessed dozens of voice notes that trafficked women secretly recorded while in captivity, the Pulitzer Center funded my audio reporting in Liberia and Uganda. It turned into a documentary aired by CBC Radio on The Current and I later hosted an episode of Storylines. That followed a six-part BBC TV documentary series on global human trafficking in India, Egypt, Mexico, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania and Kenya that I researched in collaboration with Moonbeam-Linx Productions. In previous work, I’ve written and produced short TV documentaries, video reports and long-form text stories on mob violence against former child soldiers in Liberia, women abducted by warlords in Uganda, the genocide in Rwanda, the revolution in Burkina Faso, the human cost of the Israeli Palestinian conflict, the 2020 and 2024 U.S. elections. During the student protests and encampments in New York, I investigated police violence at Columbia University while I was a student at the Journalism School. My career began as a newspaper journalist and editor in London where a team I led was awarded Newspaper of the Year before I moved to Nairobi and then New York to deepen my global reporting. Meanwhile, my family's migration history inspired me to found Stories Of Survival where refugees and trauma survivors told unheard, first person stories. The series began on social media, where it has over 300,000 followers.I am Hostile Environment and First Aid trained by the International Women’s Media Foundation, participated in the 2024 Global Early Childhood Reporting Institute fellowship program at the Dart Center for Trauma Reporting and was selected for City University New York’s Creators’ Lab for Entrepreneurial Journalism.
