Research Analyst

Denver, Colorado

My role as a research analyst allows me to effectively conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to inform health policy efforts in Colorado. These analyses include program evaluations, state-level needs assessments, and policy briefs on a wide range of issues: early care and education, medication consistency, housing, and telemedicine. My MPH skills are applied in numerous ways, from organizing datasets in SAS to creating interactive map visualizations in ArcGIS Online.

Jul 2019 - May 2021

Community Health Assessment Intern

I spent my second year of my MPH program connecting community assessment and data management at CDPHE. This included supporting the community health assessment planning process by creating data visualizations to disseminate state-level data for local public health agencies and building relationships with community partners. My analytic epidemiology skills were applied to examine population-based surveillance data for Colorado Health Indicators through data management in SAS.

Jan 2019 - Jul 2019

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Aurora, Colorado

As a graduate teaching assistant with the Colorado School of Public Health, I facilitated and supported the learning environment for 50 first semester, graduate students in the Foundations of Public Health course. Throughout this semester, I supported the professor in grading all assignments, provided constructive feedback on individual and group assignments, and led presentations and class discussions. My favorite parts of this role included addressing various needs of students’ and cultivating a space of growth for individuals in a transitioning period of their academic careers.

Aug 2018 - Dec 2018

Graduate Research Assistant

During the first year of my MPH, I had the opportunity to work in a nationwide study that connected patients' social determinants of health factors, such as food and housing insecurities, to their primary care appointments. Within UCHealth's Internal Medicine Anschutz Clinic, I successfully recruited 100 patients to take the Accountable Health Community Survey on REDCap. Additionally, I conducted five semi-structured qualitative interviews with survey participants to explore their thoughts concerning sharing social and economic needs with their medical provider. Post-survey, I screened all survey participants for potential verbal and/or physical abuse and exercised tact and sound judgement by referring them to an on-site social worker. The timing of this project was extremely special in that the clinic was already planning to pilot a health systems change that screened all patients for various social determinants of health. Because of this, I had the opportunity to education medical staff on best practices in adopting the pilot program.

Feb 2018 - Sep 2018

Global Health University Co-Coordinator

Boulder, Co

During my last year at CU, I served on the executive board of a student run non-profit organization addressing global health equity. The biggest part of my role including preparing weekly presentations and facilitating discussions on various topics: vaccinations, health equity, and mental health. Through my position on the board, I coordinated five on- and off-campus community education events. I also had the opportunity to practice management skills by managed a six-person global health team and overseeing an advocacy group. When the semester ended, I helped interview and train the new executive board for the following semester.

Aug 2014 - May 2015

Development Intern

Himalayan Healthcare

Kathmandu, Nepal

Through my involvement with CU's chapter of GlobeMed, a national non-profit organization, I was selected on a team of five to serve as a development intern at our grassroots partner, Himalayan HealthCare. These 10 weeks spent in Nepal are ones I think of often. The primary goal of this internship aimed to evaluate three aspects of the program: women's empowerment, income generation, and primary care. This grassroots work meant we worked alongside community leaders, mothers, children, to implement projects, such as effective cook-stoves to prevent respiratory disease and greenhouses to grow and sell crops. My personal project included spearheading a nutrition education campaign, and during my time in the local communities, I collected primary data on nutrition levels in children ages 5-18. The final report of this internship included analyzing cultural, educational, social and demographic data about the community to guide local program development.
