I'm CEO of Barefoot Innovation Group, host the podcast show Barefoot Innovation, and am Senior Fellow Emerita at the Center for Business & Government at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. I'm a keynote speaker on fintech and regtech, reaching thousands of people annually in the U.S. and throughout the world. I'm writing a book on financial innovation and regulation. I'm an angel investor and co-founder of the startup Hummingbird Regtech, bringing better technology to AML and fighting financial crime. I serve on the board of directors of Oportun and chair the board of the Center for Financial Services Innovation. For three years I served on the Consumer Advisory Board to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I'm also on the board of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and several advisory boards. I was previously Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, served on the Senate Banking Committee staff, and was a partner and managing director at KPMG.

I spent two years as a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government in Cambridge. As of July 2017, I transitioned to Senior Fellow Emerita status, continuing work on my book on financial innovation and regulation. My work explores the potential for innovative fintech to solve seemingly insoluble problems in financial services, especially for consumers and small businesses. It also argues that new "regtech" can fundamentally transform how regulation is done, improving public policy outcomes and slashing regulatory costs, simultaneously.

Headed KPMG Barefoot Marrinan, KPMG's financial industry consulting practice for consumer and community issues. Built a nationwide retail bank advisory team and headed the firm's privacy consulting initiative. Also served as the Midwest leader of KPMG's overall banking practice

Founded and built premier consulting firm providing bank regulatory advice on consumer financial protection. Barefoot Marrinan advised nearly all of America's largest banks, many global non-bank financial companies, and scores of community institutions. Also published books and newsletters.

Led the establishment of the OCC's original consumer protection unit focused on examinations and enforcement of the consumer, community reinvestment, and fair lending laws for all national banks, as well as consumer education. Later also oversaw congressional, media,and interagency relations, including the Comptroller's role as a member of the board of the FDIC.

Served as the staff appointee of the full committee chairman, William Proxmire, to the Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Affairs. Issues involved all aspects of banking law involving consumers, community reinvestment, and civil rights, as well as federal housing policy, including HUD and GSE's.
