Mr. Jorge Bauermeister is an attorney based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. A graduate of Rutgers College (New Brunswick, NJ) and the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, Mr. Bauermeister has funneled his love for technology into a successful legal practice. He currently serves as Legal Counsel for Melody Wireless Infrastructure, and has the responsibility fo managing legal responsibilities of this $1.65B company. His legal experience is varied and has exposed him to view the role of an attorney from multiple perspectives: as a private practice lawyer, in-house counsel, utility regulator, among others.After successfully litigating the opening of the intra-island long distance and payphone market in Puerto Rico as an Associate in the Telecommunications Practice Group of the law firm Axtmayer, Adsuar Muñiz & Goyco, Mr. Bauermeister was recruited to create and lead the Legal and Regulatory Affairs division in Centennial de Puerto Rico, a provider of wireless, wireline, cable television and Internet services. As Centennial’s in-house counsel, he engaged directly with the company’s business and engineering teams to ensure that Centennial’s aggressive business plans would survive a new and volatile legal and regulatory environment. On a daily basis he supervised and led the development of legally sound corporate policies and business strategies, managed complex litigation matters, negotiated contracts for the company, and managed regulatory compliance. In 2002, he was nominated by the Governor and unanimously confirmed by the Senate to become the fourth Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Regulatory Board. As a Commissioner, he took a leading role on and off the island and became the first and only Puerto Rican to become a Chairman of a standing committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), a member of NARUC's Board of Directors, and the representative in the FCC created Telecommunications Relay Service Advisory Council. In August 2005, Mr. Bauermeister opened up his private practice in San Juan, Puerto Rico, focusing on telecommunications, cable and Internet law, where he leveraged his more than 20 years of experience to provide successful results to his clients.
