After 5 years as the Facility Operations Supervisor for the District of Oak Bay’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, Joshua is excited to be starting as Head of Flow and Growth for Snazzy Construction. In this role he will work directly with the company’s builder and CEO, and with project managers and field staff to understand and improve the company’s day-to-day flow of operations in the office and in the field.⁠In addition to his work, Joshua was president of his strata council for four years, stepping down this year to refocus on his education. Leading a community of 45 households has been a challenging experience in stakeholder management. Management of a common asset and 1.5 acres of land in central Oak Bay was a compelling exercise in direct governance. All residents of the community are voting owners who often have conflicting interests and can voice their opinions with little degree of separation. Joshua’s educational background has followed an unconventional path up to this point. Initially receiving his 4th Class Power Engineering credential from Vancouver Island University in 2015, Joshua immediately started working for the District of Oak Bay. Once working in local government, he developed an interest in governance and administration. After a brief leadership development program at Camosun College, Joshua completed the 3rd and 4th year Public Administration Diploma through the University of Victoria. Finally, Joshua recently completed his Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management through Royal Roads University. Joshua is a highly effective person professionally and personally. In his free time, he enjoys running, kayaking, paddle boarding and cycling all over Vancouver Island. Family is important to him and he spends a large part of his evenings and weekends with his grandmother in their backyard gardening.
