Sr. Manager for Production Engineering (aka SRE) for the Libra Crypto-Currency project (now called Diem)

I have four primary areas of responsibility within EMC's Emerging Technology Division. First to provide a creditable resource to the sales team, for discussions around next generation infrastructure architecture. Second, I am charged with working with our Ventures team in contributing to the due diligence of potential investments. Third, I contribute to the creation of ETD's product strategy and how it relates to customers designing IT platforms around Mesos, Docker, DevOps and other related important technology. Lastly, I am the executive leader of {code} by Dell EMC.{code} by Dell EMC, a small group of open source developers charged with making Dell EMC relevant in the open source community. The team is responsible for creating entirely new projects, contributing to thought leading existing products, as well as evangelize, and create awareness for leading edge technologies. For example, the team is currently working to solve the problem of data persistence on containerized platforms like Mesos and Docker.

Ultimately became responsible for architecting and deploying the data center infrastructure that ran Siri worldwide. I was part of the original Siri Operations team that launched Siri in 2011 after it was acquired by Apple. This included, but wasn't limited to the design and build out of Siri Infrastructure from dirt to the blinking cursor.

Designed and implemented Penguin Computing On Demand. POD is designed as a full HPC class cluster, hosted in the cloud. Responsible for middleware provisioning, scheduling, network, and storage architecture and customer facing web portal. Responsible for testing, benchmarking, tuning and profiling highly parallel applications. Wrote test harnesses, applications and customer facing "appNotes" for configuration our clustering software to best run a number of open-source, custom applications, and proprietary ISV applications. Came up with a trade show demo that booted a full cluster of computers from a USB wristwatch in 8 minutes. Became lead engineer on our Workload Scheduler named "Scyld Taskmaster" which included a proprietary interface to our software but also interfaced with a number of other resource managers such as Torque, SGE, PBS, LSF, and LoadLeveler. Experimented with using TaskMaster to provide adaptive provisioning of enterprise type workloads using Xen and VM-Ware. Worked in the core engineering continuing product development. Technology experience includes MPI, PVM, Bproc and workload scheduling concepts. Application experience includes a wide variety of FEA, CFD, and Life Science applications such as Fluent, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Abaqus, Nastran, BLAST, Amber, NAMD, and VTK. Programming languages used include C, Python, Shell, and Perl.

Designed and supported the Planetary Imaging and Research Lab (PIRL) central computing facility. Focused highly on Linux and UNIX systems which involved much shell scripting. Wrote administrative tools to maintain LDAP directory. Updated environment code to become compatible with the bash shell. Became a systems administrator for the HiRISE project, a camera system to be set into orbit around Mars in August of 2005. Worked on efforts to consolidate network name services from NetInfo (Darwin) and NIS+ (Solaris) into a single LDAP directory. Some web services work included support of Apache, PHP, OpenSSL, and mySQL server. Provided desktop support for Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris workstations. General server support for Linux and Solaris operating systems. Systems Support Staff 09/2003 ­ 01/2005

Handled Linux and Solaris server administration, including end user support of various science teams. Designed and deployed the lab's first Beowulf Linux cluster, and designed and deployed a cross-platform, mixed architecture Samba/LDAP infrastructure.

Supported the Engineering College's UNIX, Linux, BSD, and Macintosh infrastructure. Responsible for 3000 user accounts, e-mail, and web server. Leada project to provide College-wide user authentication using LDAP and Samba. This practice is being adopted across other departments on campus. Also lead a project to consolidate all IT management data into one web-based interface. Software knowledge includes the use of Tru64, RedHat and Debian Linux, OS X, Sendmail, Majordomo, Apache, PHP, Perl, OpenPBS, Beowulf Clusteing Utilities, OpenSSH, OpenLDAP, OpenSSL and Veritas Backup Server.

Responsible for daily IT operations. Provided software support to end customers as well as office staff. Software included the use of Microsoft Windows 2000/NT/98, Microsoft Terminal Server, Microsoft Office, Citrix Metaframe, Symantec pcAnywhere, and RedHat Linux. Designed and integrated Linux-based firewall providing DNS, NAT, DHCP, Apache, qMail and VPN Gateway/Server. Developed PHP-based escrow web application for clients.

Administered and supported a Local Area Network of 450 workstations and 6 servers running Novell Netware 3.51 and Windows NT 4. Maintained Windows 98/95/3.11 clients running Microsoft Office 95/97, WordPerfect 6.1 and PageMaker 6.5. Later started a project to reuse older x86 hardware as campus wide workstations using the Linux Terminal Server Project.; CLASSES TAUGHT "Introduction to High Performance Computing" September 2004
