I help clients, large and small, solve trade and regulatory problems and develop effective and efficient compliance strategies. My practice covers a wide range of trade law matters, such as: - customs and supply chain compliance - structuring Canadian import-based businesses, commercial sales for export and transfer pricing to optimize duty and tax treatment- anti-dumping and countervailing measures actions- import and export controls and permits- economic sanctions- anti-corruption and white collar investigations- customs audits and appeals before CBSA, CITT and the Federal Court- free trade agreements and treaty/WTO lawI am the current Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law International Trade Committee, Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association International Law Section, and a regular speaker and contributor on topics related to trade and international law. I am on Twitter @jbhorwitz.Before becoming a lawyer I worked in international policy analysis at the Washington D.C. think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where I researched and published on international security, trade and economic issues. I also served as Chief of Staff for the non-profit organization Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP), managing volunteers and coordinating operations for the organization's global chapters. I have interned at OAS-affiliated Justice Studies Center of the Americas (CEJA) in Santiago, Chile, and studied at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. My J.D. is from Queen's University and my Honours BA in International Relations and Economics is from the University of Toronto. I am an active alumna at both universities, involved in mentorship and other volunteer activities. I proudly hail from Ottawa, Canada.
