James Bruenger-Arreguin, Kathleen Capdesuñer, and Ana Luz Zambrana were chosen for The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowships.Fellows will develop their craft by directing two productions in the summers of 2022 and 2023.Three emerging, talented, and ambitious directors will have their artistic vision showcased at Repertorio Español’s Gramercy Arts Theatre, taking the opportunity of using Repertorio’s artistic and technical resources while working alongside Repertorio’s staff and Company. Through The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowships, funded Repertorio provides professional development opportunities, and cultivates and mentors emerging Latinx/Latine directors living in New York City (ages 18-30) and gives the directors the opportunity to mount a professional production at Repertorio.

This play is a parable based on the historic Conejos neighborhood, a tight-knit immigrant community in Colorado Springs. Themes include gentrification and the power of oral tradition.

The New York City BFA Acting and Musical Theatre Showcase has been an important final step in the professional training programs for graduating senior actors and musical theatre majors at the University of the Arts and is, for many, the beginning of successful professional performance careers on stage, in television and in film.
