EXPERIENCEAs a Project Manager and business owner, I have worked on large complex projects such as large waste water treatment projects, medium downtown restoration projects and small tenant improvement projects. At GSA I was assigned to lead multiple project teams and lead agency project updates as a Global Project Manager.I also have vast experience with building systems such as voice evacuation fire alarm systems and access control systems. My knowledge of other building systems such as chillers, cooling towers, DOAS and more conventional HVAC systems has served me well in managing projects in the large Downtown Denver Federal Buildings.My interests have always been in the alternative energy fields since I first learned how to use passive techniques for heating and cooling. Since then I have used this interest in the alternative energy field to educate and involve myself in a variety of projects. With my knowledge and experience I built an off the grid vacation home for a client of my contracting business, Burton Building Enterprises. The project consisted of an in-floor radiant system, roof mounted solar array with battery bank and propane back-up generator. Although considered, the idea to use the natural geothermal features of the area for heating seemed too risky for this project, since this was purely a vacation home. On a much larger scale my involvement with the Wayne Aspinall F.B. project allowed me to work with engineers and designers to develop the first net zero historically registered and LEED platinum building in GSA’s inventory. This project will prove that old buildings can be made efficient and are worth saving. Throughout this project we incorporated passive techniques, tightening the envelope as well as installing a modern solar canopy and the use of geo-exchange wells. We also maximized the large windows and implemented daylight harvesting techniques.
