About Jc Ferguson

It all starts with our beloved customers. I seek to understand the problems our customers are trying to solve, then work collaboratively with the customers, product management, and the engineering teams to craft best-in-class solutions. It is through collaboration and transparency with many people where the best ideas and solutions emerge, not the ones built in silos. It is so important to understand it from the customer's point of view to craft the right solution.I leverage my long tenure of experience as a software architect, engineering leader, occasional product manager, and technologist to define solutions aimed to solve customer and business problems. The most exciting stuff for me is the "V1" products, where I have a chance to innovate and solve new problems with novel solutions. When it comes to execution, I am a huge fan of getting end-to-end workflows functioning using thin threading as quickly as possible, then iterate, with each iteration making the solution more robust, automatic and complete (and less duct tape an bailing wire). This method allows the team to gain feedback on the direction of the solution from our customers as well as uncover systemic risks earlier rather than later. As we all know, integration between systems is where the pain and agony lurks, the E2E thin-threading method mitigates the risk early. This approach is ideal and well-suited for the Agile development shops I serve. I make it a point to work with the developers, testers, UX designers during implementation to ensure I am factoring in their perspective on the architecture, and sometimes, that means revisiting solutions I crafted.I have a passion around Open Source governance, with an expert level of knowledge on many open source licenses and their potential risk to intellectual property. I am always excited to assess open source use during M&A due diligence, and represent findings in layperson's language to business and legal people making the "go" / "no go" decision. Post deal closure, I work with the acquired company to align with the company's best practice.Lastly, I like to bring a little fun to the environments I work in. In the face of the most stressful problems, a little levity can go a long way in getting people take a deep breath, work together and achieve success. When I'm not working, I love to be outside, hiking, skiing, cycling, working in my yard, swimming, boating, etc. I also volunteer my time and serve as Tree Warden in Harvard, which is governed by Massachusetts General Laws 87 and scenic road bylaw section 90

Listed skills include Software Development, System Architecture, Software Engineering, Linux, and 40 others.
