Dr John Calleya completed a Naval Architecture Master's degree at University College London (UCL), during this time he worked as a Submarine Naval Architect for BAE Systems at a shipyard in the UK. John completed a PhD at UCL that examined ways to design ships with lower greenhouse gas emissions.After his PhD, John secured further research funding to develop a holistic ship energy model, the Whole Ship Model, leading the engineering effort in a techno-economic shipping sector model. John also worked in a consultancy role with leading shipping companies and led the RINA delegation to IMO Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) meetings.After leaving UCL, John worked at a ship performance monitoring company, before joining the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2018. John is responsible for administering the IMO Data Collection System, the EEDI database and is an IMO expert for matters related to air pollution. As a member of the Secretariat he is responsible for delivering IMO meetings.
