In May 1981 Ira Carter received his bachelors of Art degree from the University of Nevada; Las Vegas in criminal justice. On September 11th, 1981 until January 3rd, 2012 he served as a police officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. During his thirty (30) year career he worked uniform patrol, Auto Theft, VIPER Auto Theft Task Force, Internal Affairs (Diversity Section) and Financial Crimes. While assigned to uniform patrol he served as a field training officer for six years.After his experience in the patrol division he was assigned to the Auto Theft Detail. He was instrumental in creating the LVMPD Viper Auto Theft Task Force which is currently responsible for conducting complex auto theft investigations throughout the Las Vegas Valley. After leaving the Auto Theft Detail he was assigned to the Internal Affairs Section where he conducted internal investigations involving employment diversity issues.Upon transferring from the Internal Affairs Section he was reassigned to the Financial Property Bureau where he worked Identity Theft, Forgery, and Fraud investigations. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a member of the ACFE. He is also a member of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigations and a Certified Financial Crimes Investigator. Until retirement, he was a certified instructor with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
