Crunching numbers is boring right? Wrong! Hello, my name is Josef (spelled with an “f” not “ph”). I am a recent NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) Graduate and an aspiring CPA. Ever since I was a kid, numbers and Accounting have been interests of mine. This is heavily influenced by my parents who are both experts in the field. They showed me that the numbers are as important as the person calculating, organizing and presenting them. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Accounting at a fairly young age. By 10th Grade, I completed collegiate level courses. I can’t explain how satisfying it is to crunch the numbers by hand and have the same end result the professor wrote on the board. This passion carried me through my education at NAIT where my professors had vast experience in the courses they taught. During that time as a full time student working two jobs, I was blessed to apply my knowledge at West Edmonton Mall. In addition to my managerial duties, my position involved inventory management and monthly and semi-annual inventory reconciliation. I was in charge of purchasing merchandise supplies for the park, food and beverage and retail store. My experience helped me understand concepts and principles I was simultaneously studying at NAIT. The best learning moments at NAIT came when I could relate to its application and say “We do this at our department/ organization”. There’s a lot more I would love to learn in the Accounting industry and I believe, with my experience and insight, I am a perfect fit.
