About John Clapham

Over 35 years of my working life was spent as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. I am a pharmacologist by training and have a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology. My main research interests were in obesity and diabetes drug discovery. I have over 100 peer-reviewed original articles, reviews and book chapters. Awarded an honorary chair by the University of Warwick Medical School. Appeared in an episode of the BBC’s science magazine programme, Horizon (Fat Busters, screened in 2001 and 2010).Moved to the University of Buckingham as Professor of Metabolic Diseases Research and Chief Operating Officer for the University of Buckingham Medical School. Member of the founding team that initiated and developed the medical school which was accredited by the GMC in 2019. I co-led the school until my promotion to Pro Vice Chancellor Health Sciences and Research. In this role I helped establish courses including postgraduate medicine and surgery.I am currently Chief Operating Officer/Registrar at the newly formed Queens: Institute of Medicine at the University of Bolton.I am also a lay examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Professor Emeritus of the University of Buckingham.
