Developed analytical model that related particle microparameters to bulk solid parameters, DEM models confirmed this within 5% error.• Developed DEM models for spherical particles interacting with rough wall structures to measure wall friction, these were compared with experimental data and a good agreement was found (within 5% error), documented results in a report for later publication.• Trained and mentored two undergraduate students and one graduate student on techniques for measuring powder mechanical characteristics (internal and wall frictions) and on how to prepare test reports.• Designed and modelled rough structures in Autocad and Solidworks for testing in a Schulze ring tester, fabricated structures in a 3D printer.
