Due to inventory microstructure theories, when market makers estimate that flow toxicity is soaring, they are likely to liquidate their positions and momentarily abandon the market, hence causing a rapid price variability that the VPIN indicator foreshows.Applicable for investment firms and portfolio managers to manage their exposure to market risk.
