Middle School Math Teacher
Current6th-8th Grade Math including Pre-Algebra (6-8th), Algebra I (7-8th), and Geometry (8th)Math is the subject matter, but collaborative critical thinking and mathematical communication are the goals. My lessons foster higher level thought processes and flexibility in mathematical thinking. My students are encouraged to learn from each other, seek connections, derive new ideas, and analyze errors while on the road to a deeper understanding. My students not only know what to do and how to do it, but can also explain why. I encourage a growth mindset through my teaching methods, student/parent interactions, classroom routines, and dedication to honoring and encouraging student inquiry. I specialize in helping students transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking.Secretary, DEIB Committee: Maintain bi-monthly meeting agenda, 2022 - present.Acting Co-Head of Middle School/Point person for High School Placement program for 8th graders, rising 8th graders, and their families, 2020-2021.Team Leader 7-8 Grade: Coordinate with 5-6 Team Lead and Middle School Head and run weekly 7-8 Team Meetings, 2018 to present.Math Department Chair for Grades 5-8: Coordinate and evaluate curriculum, oversee course development and placement, 2006 to present.
