Jiazhou Conroy Hu is a New Zealand-born pianist and composer. He has performed in venues around the world, including Steinway Hall (New York City), Aotea Centre (Auckland) and Hong Kong City Hall, as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition, he has featured in orchestral performances of concertos with the Auckland Philharmonic, Nelson Symphony Orchestra and others. Conroy has received his Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano Performance at The University of Auckland, and then earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance at Mannes School of Music. In all the music he plays, his artistic approach is rooted in storytelling.Conroy primarily composes for piano, writing melodic and virtuosic works. With a diverse interest in musical genres, he blends these influences into his music. As an experienced arranger, he has written for orchestra, chamber and solo piano, spanning a wide range of styles including classical, pop, soundtrack, video game and electronic music.With a passion for nurturing in students a love for music, Conroy is committed to providing comprehensive instruction that is tailored to each individual’s goals and aspirations. His teaching philosophy is that a young musician grows using a good balance of technique, methodology, and musicianship. Conroy is well versed in teaching beginner, intermediate, as well as advanced levels. He teaches piano, theory, as well as composition.
