Hey, I’m Jon Clagg, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of IMMERTEC - an award-winning startup based in Tampa, Florida. I am a full-stack developer with more than a decade of experience in automation and telecommunications. In 2012, I received one of the early access developer kits from the Oculus Kickstarter campaign. After seeing firsthand what was possible with this technology, my ambition for the world of VR quickly grew. From the industry’s onset, there were two things I was certain of 1.) VR was going to go far beyond video games. 2.) Like TV, internet, and cell phone industries, VR would be led by companies that focus on creating meaningful, real-world business value first. Knowing this, I was motivated to leave my job and fully devote myself to the vision I had for VR. It was after poring through SEC-compliant industry reports from Goldman Sachs, Citi Bank, and others, that I saw remote medical training as a vastly underserved opportunity to create authentic business value. My deep-dive into creating 3D, training content in VR revealed that the current methods were too slow, tedious, and, by extension, lacked scalability. This meant that creating scalable business value would mean allowing medical specialists and trainees to connect and collaborate in real-time in a fully immersive virtual environment.This was the foundation of the IP I built, which allows healthcare professionals to revolutionize the way they train, collaborate, and connect. Leveraging this technology can also avoid the use of large development or production teams and provide customers and employees the ability to train in VR from real-world, real-time training opportunities.As Immertec’s CTO and co-founder, I get the opportunity to work with an amazing team to continue to hone and refine our technology. Every day presents new challenges to overcome and new directions to explore as we continue to bring our vision to life.
