About Joshua Clayton
I am a Theatre/Events Producer and Freelance Musician, with a passion for all things arts and creative and a love of strategy and organisational development.I am Festival Producer for The Lichfield Festival (an exciting multi-venue 11-day Summer arts festival, 4-day literature festival, and 3-day chamber music) alongside overseeing a variety of projects with of RicNic. I also co-run my own theatre company Work In Progress Theatre; a collective of early-career creatives with an aim to create new and exciting musical theatre with a message that captivate, inspires, challenges, and represents our audiences, encouraging them to find their own voice through the arts.I have a strong desire to create new and exciting development opportunities for early-career creatives, creating the opportunities which I wish existed at a point when I was trying to choose a career and which I had to forge for myself, and which are missing as I try to expand and structure Work In Progress Theatre. I am an advocate for establishing well-structured learning and participation provision which meets the needs of local communities and provides career development opportunities to those just getting started, along with sharing the impact of the arts with those who don't frequently engage with it. Whether producing as part of Work In Progress Theatre or as an individual on other projects, I try to ensure that my work has a positive impact and that I am furthering at least one of four objectives through this. These are:- To create theatre which interests audiences and challenges them to take action about world issues.- To provide opportunities for other young creatives to break into the industry.- To bring theatre to members of communities who don’t otherwise have access to the arts.- To create theatre in the most ethical, moral, and environmentally friendly way that I can.Past projects and roles include Stage Management Intern for Bangor University's One World Gala and other concerts, Management Team for National Student Drama Festival, Young Consortium for the For/With/By Festival of European Youth Theatre, Producer for RicNic Burton, and Producer for the Underrated! As a musician I try to cover a wide variety of areas to develop my abilities and keep each day fresh and interesting. I play the Trombone and Percussion as my main instruments (though I also dabble in others when necessary), with my main genres being Theatre pits, Orchestral, Brass Band, and Jazz, and I often work as a Conductor and Theatre Musical Director. I also provide my services as a Composer, Brass Teacher, Sound Engineer, and Virtual Ensemble Video Editor.Alongside making music, I also branch out into other areas such as Events Management, Organisation, and Production within the theatre and music industries, and in some cases Stage Management. I enjoy sitting in front of a spreadsheet or walking round with a clipboard in hand, and can often be found taking on new projects or seeking opportunities to make a difference and have an impact through events such as these

Musical Director and Co-Producer for Ricnic Burton, the newest branch of the RicNic charity.'RicNic is a genuine youth theatre company - a unique social enterprise where young people really do get to run the show. Every summer, we run projects for 16 to 21 year olds which culminate in these young teams mounting a full musical production - from scratch. Every single role – from the director to the dancers to the designers to the drummer – is undertaken by a young person. Our participants frequently call RicNic a ‘life‑changing experience’ which allows them to nurture a passion for the creative arts as well as develop skills in leadership, teamwork and communication. Best of all, participation is absolutely free. For fifteen years, RicNic has run these award-winning courses; hundreds of young people, alongside thousands of audience members and supporters, have benefited from our unique ethos.'
