Based in Perth, I supported on the reproduction of all marketing collateral including brochures, capability statements, case studies, office signage and merchandise. In addition, I worked with staff and senior management to introduce them to the existing communication platforms within Atkins. I encouraged staff to write articles for the company newsletter and intranet to increase internal visibility of the three new offices to other areas of Atkins. More generally, I helped staff and management to become familiar with new processes and procedures, corporate templates and brand guidelines, assisted staff with timesheet and annual leave systems, progressed local IT solutions to ensure internal communication platforms were mirrored and implemented in each of the new offices, supported HR with copywriting and branding for internal and external recruitment campaigns, and facilitated Atkins’ Group Induction in the three different acquisition locations for 130 staff. Predominantly based in the in oil and gas capital of Europe, with occasional travel to other energy hubs including Houston and Dubai, I was responsible for delivering strategic media relations, in the form of thought leadership articles and press releases, targeted at our key trade media. I also supported award submissions, speaking opportunities and exhibitions to strengthen the company’s position in the market. I produced marketing collateral in the form of brochures and capability documents and contributed to energy’s yearly communications plan and budget. I supported the Group Communication team based in London, particularly with the annual report, the company’s external and award winning magazine (Angles), the web site and launching new company brand guidelines. I was also involved in two acquisitions in this role. My first was a subsea consultancy with three offices across the UK and I was responsible for securing coverage in the local and national press, as well as the oil and gas trade press. Secondly, the nuclear team acquired a small niche engineering consultancy and I was responsible for the communications both internally and externally. This integration was deemed one of the company’s most successful acquisitions and the ‘communication’ element received 100% positive feedback in the six-month ‘wash-up’ report. As a result of my passion for communication and change management, I focused my dissertation for the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Diploma on these subjects. Following an audit, I introduced a monthly staff newsletter, produced regular team briefing notes, launched new corporate brand guidelines, event managed the annual senior management conferences, enhanced the division’s intranet presence, and made a significant contribution to the team’s internal recruitment figures through the creation of news and staff profiles for the Group wide intranet. I also generated some external coverage in key oil and gas titles, such as Offshore Engineer, Offshore, World Oil, JPT and Upstream, significantly increasing the division’s external profile and coverage.
