Served to expanded the overall capnography market by raising awareness of respiratory compromise and identifying and overcoming barriers to capnography adoption in existing and new accounts. Procedural sedation targets grew 145% year over year and general care floor targets grew 105% year over year in FY2019.-Facilitated and supported the development of clinical champions, developed key opinion leaders, as well as educated clinical staff, super-users, and providers. -Engaged with national societies on the chapter and state level to raise awareness around respiratory compromise by presenting on the topic.-Conducted capnography re-education in an effort to recalibrate accounts that saw a reduction in consumables purchases post-implementation. -Assisted hospitals with risk stratification, alarm management strategies (including Medtronic's Alarm Analysis Program), development of policies/protocols, and assistance with outcomes tracking via the Capnography Quality Improvement Program.-Frequently worked with Medical and Clinical Affairs on advisory boards, remote peer-to-peer speaking events, and dissemination of clinical evidence, both internally and externally.

The nurse practitioner for the CVTS department is primarily responsible for managing post surgical floor patients, seeing surgical consultations, obtaining history and physicals and reviewing diagnostic tests prior to surgery. Have also rotated through the Cardiovascular ICU and managed patients during their immediate postoperative period. This included initiation and management of vasoactive infusions, ventilator management, and invasive procedures. Surgeries included cardiac cases such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, ascending and descending aorta repair, and orthotopic heart transplantion. Thoracic surgeries included lung lobectomies and wedge resections, esophagectomies, tracheal reconstruction, diaphragm plication, thymectomies, and lung transplantation. As part of the management of patients I ordered and interpreted diagnostic testing, selected appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions following national guidelines, provided patient education, initiated discharge planning, and arranged follow up care and home care when appropriate. Along with my other nurse practitioner colleagues, I have provided educational in-services and did frequent informal teaching for the nursing staff.

The Critical Care and Trauma Nurse Internship is a nationally known program for new baccalaureate nurses conducted annually at Parkland Memorial Hospital. It is affiliated with the University of Texas at Arlington, with participants receiving 6 hours of graduate credit for participation in the program. It is also approved by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The class consists of 20 outstanding new nurses who compete for admission in a pool of over 300 applicants. I was responsible for clinical instruction primarily in the Surgical/Neuro/Trauma ICU, but also had interaction at the bedside with nurse interns in the Medical ICU, Cardiopulmonary ICU, and Burn ICU. The nurse interns frequently care for the most complex challenging patients, including those with multisystem trauma, cerebral aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injuries, acute myocardial infarction, decompensated heart failure, liver failure, acute kidney injury, ARDS, and complex general surgery patients. The clinical instructor requires a high degree of technical expertise, strong critical thinking skills, and an extensive knowledge of both pathophysiology and pharmacology. It also requires excellent assessment skills and positive, effective interpersonal skills. I have written and presented several lectures to the nurse interns as well as nurses in the Critical Care Residency, Labor and Delievery Residency and Medical-Surgical Fellowship at Parkland. I continued to staff in the Surgical/Neuro/Trauma ICU to maintain clinical expertise.

I provided care to a variety of critically ill patients in the dynamic Surgical/Neuro/Trauma ICU including neurosurgical, multisystem trauma, general surgery, vascular surgery, sepsis, ARDS, as well as medicine overflow. I gained substantial experience in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, performing extensive and complex surgical dressing changes, interpretation of hemodynamic monitoring parameters, and managing patients with complex and rapidly changing clinical problems. I developed strong knowledge base in pharmacology, manipulation of ventilator settings for specific pulmonary pathologies, and selection of alternative inotropes and vasoactive agents to meet hemodynamic goals in complex patients. I also developed effective, positive, collaborative interpersonal skills, and worked well with patients, families, nurses, and physicians. During this time I exhibited ability to maintain focus and productivity while displaying a calm, purposeful, and professional demeanor. I also served as a preceptor to new nurses and as a team leader.

I participated in a selective 28-week program affiliated with the University of Texas at Arlington and approved by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. This included extensive classroom curriculum and rotations through 6 clinical areas, including the Surgical/Neuro/Trauma ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiopulmonary ICU, Burn ICU, Emergency Services Department and the Trauma Department. During this time I provided complete care to 1-2 critically ill patients per shift, with specific assignments aligned with extensive course objectives. The didactic portion of curriculum included written tests, skills tests for credentialing and competency validation, and quizzing at the bedside by faculty. I gained extensive experience in assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, titration of hemodynamic infusions, interpretation of 12-lead ECGs, and managing the patient-ventilator system.
