While at eBay I held several different roles, in several divisions. My roles were very high profile and at times reported to the CTO or CEO for availability of the site. They all included aspects of site availability and capacitation of the eBay and PayPal properties, through architecture, design, software development, and troubleshooting. There are may key initiatives but 2 stand out in my mind. During the beginning of my tenure with eBay the iPix picture service was tied into the listing and selling service (primary revenue points) for eBay. In my first week iPix had a 20 hour outage which I predicted (using basic capacitization methods), that outage was managed, diagnosed, and repaired with my leadership in very short order given the issue (it was a large enough problem it could have shut down the corporation) which caused the problem. Another issue came during the 1st year of acquisition of PayPal. At that time there were no rollback capabilities for code inside of PayPal, as well as no real troubleshooting methodologies. During the rollout (using the waterfall method) of a release on the site the application changes (a Data Base change to 2Phase Commit ) caused the production Data bases to fail continually. As there was no way to rollback, we had to (in short order) rebuild a method for allowing data to be inserted into all of the production data bases. If we hadn’t found a very unique way of proxy-ing the calls to the Data Bases the site would have been down for several days.

Responsibilities includeDay to day management of all PayPal sites from an availability and operational perspective. Architectural developmentand supervision of key development initiatives (Site availability, Site Billing, Financial systems, Third party interactionsect..). Remaining deeply technically verse in all key site technologies in order to assist in reducing impact to system andsite availability.

Managed all aspects of PayPal's production web site's availability - 24/7. Staffing, Ops eng (coding), realtime availability, technology troubleshooting and repair

Lead and manage all aspects of realtime troubleshooting of all technologies for all of the PayPal properties. Including all Network subsystems, All hardware platforms, RDBMS’s (Oracle, MySQL), and internal eBay / PayPal code.

Day to day management of iPIX image management and billing systems. Manage eBay site interest and integration with iPIX during eBay acquisition. Manage risk vs­ reward of application enhancements and changes. Define application restoration during availability impacting issue's. Manage all company technical resources through the acquisition andintegration of iPIX into eBay

One of the first ‘big 5’ search engines – which was purchased by NBC. Managed all aspects of Operational engineering, coding tools for site content changes, add management, sales management. Designed and architected content and web service for scalability and service availability.
