The Insight DevOps Engineering Fellowship (https://www.insightdevops.com/) is a 7-week intensive program aimed to bridge people with strong computer science and engineering skills with careers in DevOps by giving them space to get hands-on experience building out distributed platforms on AWS using open source technologies.What I built while at Insight:• Developed Tower of Terra, a platform showcasing how Terraform and Terratest can be combined to easily create and conduct automated infrastructure & integration tests within transient testing environments• Automated single-command provisioning of Kafka, ZooKeeper, and Sangrenel clusters on AWS using Terraform and Packer

Hello Caregiver was a free, automated conversational tool for unpaid caregivers of older adults with dementia or other suspected cognitive impairment. Inspired by the successful model used by text4baby, Hello Caregiver contacted its user with relevant and location-specific suggestions to help with caregiving and supporting caregivers in also taking care of themselves.• 2017 Catalyst Finalist• openIDEO Caregiving for Dementia Challenge Shortlist EntryWorking on a small, nimble team, I was responsible for building our prototype ideas into fruition. This included researching and comparing bot-building platforms, using these platforms to create SMS / Messenger / web prototypes, and ultimately building a custom Node.js app using Twilio and a suite of AWS services.In addition to my technical contributions, I worked alongside my two co-founders to help develop partnerships with local hospitals, care facilities, and CBOs, brainstorm product direction ideas, analyze and model potential market/impact, conduct user feedback sessions, and compose grant applications.

I was one of sixteen individuals selected for the Fellowship at Blue Ridge Labs @ Robin Hood, a tech incubator that brings together mid-career engineers, designers, product managers, and domain experts to research how technology may be able to serve those often overlooked by technology. The 2017 Fellowship focused on low-income older adults and their caregivers and consisted of two phases: a Research phase, in which user and expert interviews were supplemented with desk research, and a Build phase, in which the Fellows built, tested, and refined prototypes of their ideas.During the first phase, I led a research sprint around the topic of elder abuse and investigated other domains such as transportation, holistic health, and nutrition. During the final phase, I formed a team alongside a few others Fellows, and this ultimately grew into Hello Caregiver — a digital tool for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

• Implemented a wide range of user-facing features, growth & retention A/B tests, and internal tools for an RSS-aggregation & blogging platform serving over half a million daily active bloggers & blog readers• Recruited, interviewed, onboarded, & mentored fellow engineers, collaborated in architecture & cross-team feature-planning sessions, researched & executed tech-stack improvements, conducted daily standups & roadmap reviews, and undertook other various leadership roles• Planned & executed internal technical undertakings, including mass data migrations, site-wide SEO improvements, and third-party integrations (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Parse, Branch.io, & Amazon S3)• Co-managed team-wide rewrite of Node.js microservice into core PHP repository, leading to decreased system complexity and increased platform stability & developer velocity• Helped coordinate coding & migration efforts regarding Sverve acquisition, including an integration of over 30K influencers & brands into the main Bloglovin’ platform
