After receiving an undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University, and a Distinguished Military Graduate in ROTC, I won a Regular Army commission as an Officer (2LT) in the U. S. Army. I spend 21 good years in the U. S. Army and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I worked in numerous locations throughout the U. S. and Hawaii and held various leadership and management positions in small, medium and large organizations. Certified to teach JROTC, I transitioned from the military to teaching JROTC. I have been teaching in public schools for over 21 years. I have a master’s degree in Education with a major in Educational Administration. I have a Doctorate degree in Education (Ed.D) with a major in Curriculum and Instruction/ Curriculum Studies.I also coach the school cross country team.Working with young people in grades 7-12has been a joy of my life. Mentoring and coaching young people become better citizens is the greatest challenge I have experienced in all the years working as a leader and manager of people and organizations. Watching them grow in JROTC is amazing and comforting to me; especially when they seek your knowledge and experience as they develop their goals in life. I have been blessed to give young people hope and a path to follow. I am an advocate of the essential elements of literacy: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension; how and why we must teach phonics and essential literacy skills to readers of all ages. I also have a passion for a peer-teaching teaching strategy and the effects it has on a student’s self-confidence.MY GOALS: 1. Continue to find new learning strategies to teach young people value and success in learning work force skills as they prepare for the world outside a school setting.2 .
