Senior Solutions Architect
Sales Engineer
I MOSTLY did SE things like Introduction Calls, Demos, and some PoVs.I spent a significant amount of time working on messaging, marketing, and PoV structure.I also spent a decent amount of time building out the Demo "Simulator", as I called it. Basically, I built out a solution which would enable the entire team to tell the same consistent and seamless story about the product's value 100% of the time without running into conflicts w/ other on-going demos, having to "reset" demo environments, or having to wait for pages to load slowly in production systems.Naturally, I also wrote some blog posts, participated in webinars, and spoke at conferences. Of course, I assisted w/ Sales Enablement.

Performed all of the following duties for Managed Detection & Response (MDR) and Managed Security Services (MSSP) customers in addition to the responsibilities listed in the previous Tier I role.Improved quality of SOC & SIEM-as-a-service by developing methodologies and strategies to enable greater partnership with Internal Resources, Key Client Stakeholders, and Security Product Vendors. This enhanced the team’s ability to identify security gaps, develop solutions, and ensure that the implemented solutions met client requirements.Acted as a Senior Resource for the Global SIEM Engineering Team by creating a Training Framework, Development (SDLC) & Project Management Framework, Technical Documentation Framework, and Ticketing System Architecture to optimize labor, promote greater consistency throughout service delivery, and improve visibility, communication, and management of work.Developed and presented new executive-level reporting that became adopted by the Customer Success team for on-site client visits and quarterly business reviews. The selected metrics and methodology also served as the foundation for a new “security score” service offering.Lead advanced SIEM Content Development through the creation of complex use-cases and layered correlation frameworks, management of mission-critical development projects through the Scrum methodology, and orchestration of team huddles designed to disseminate and discuss new methods and ideas.Raised the skill level of the entire SIEM Engineering Team by participating in the hiring process, conducting training, acting as a mentor to others, contributing to documentation, and sharing valuable insights gathered from experience.Served as a primary resource responsible for SIEM Health, participated in regular service calls with the SIEM Vendor, and created a suite of health-monitoring use cases and procedures.
Detection Engineer
Became a trusted advisor, advocate, and expert for Managed Detection & Response (MDR) and Managed Security Services (MSSP) by regularly meeting with personnel on the client side. Ensured that all parties derived maximum value from the SOC & SIEM-as-a-service throughout the proof of concept, onboarding, and production phases.Consulted with c-suite executives, directors, and managers to reinforce value proposition, discuss security strategy and goals, analyze higher level service metrics and reporting, raise recommendations for additional security products, services, and practices, and address any questions or issues related to service delivery.Partnered with security engineers and analysts to review alerts, reports, and investigations, identify and address security trends of interest, assist in high-severity incident response, verify that SOC processes are aligned with customer needs, ensure that new log sources were onboarded and are being leveraged correctly, address tuning and whitelisting, and make recommendations for or discuss requests for new SIEM content.Integrated with key stakeholders in both groups to understand the environment and workflow, identify security gaps, develop targeted solutions, and implement those solutions in the SOC and SIEM in the form of new correlation rules, reports, dashboards, documentation, and SOC procedures.Developed an array of complex correlation rules designed to address operational burdens on the SOC & SIEM and provide higher quality alerting.
Soc Analyst
Served as the primary investigative and analytic layer for the SOC & SIEM-as-a-service as an analyst engaging in both semi-structured incident investigation and free-form threat hunting in the SIEM.Assessed potential security incidents generated by the SIEM through correlation rules built around pre-defined use-cases specific to events of interest from log sources, known behavior patterns associated with attackers and compromised assets, and other activity identified as suspicious through business context modeling or threat intelligence.Leveraged threat intelligence indicators (IoCs and IoAs), tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs), and general trends of interest to perform manual hunting in individual customer environments and globally across all environments. Assisted customers with ongoing incidents and investigations by providing log data, additional investigation on given parameters, and additional context on historical incidents.Used incident data and findings to escalate whitelisting and tuning recommendations to the Customer and the SIEM Content team.Developed a Case/Investigation Processing tool in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Google AppsScript that integrated with the email and chat system to reduce labor, mitigate costly user-error, and enable analysts to spend more time performing investigations and less time administering cases and emails. This system was eventually superseded by ServiceNow; however, the key functions were adopted into the architecture of that system with my guidance.Created an all-in-one analyst investigation tool, on my own time, that provides centralized access to external resources such as Talos Intelligence, DomainTools.com, and VirusTotal. The tool also features functionality, such as “screen capture”, that other websites require a subscription to access. The tool’s hosting, administration, and configuration was purchased, developed, and maintained by me and can be accessed at “snapit.gq”.
